RANDY De Puniet has revealed he’ll be making a return to the MotoGP paddock as he joins Niccolo Canepa in the LCR squad for the inaugural MotoE season next year.
A former rider in Lucio Cecchinello’s team, the Frenchman has been out of a full-time grand prix ride since his departure from the CRT class and the championship at the end of 2013.
De Puniet will partner 2017 World Endurance champ Canepa in the new electric racing arm of LCR, but the former 250cc GP race winner says he’s most happy to be heading back to familiar territory.
“Of course I am very happy to be part of the first MotoE Championship and for me it is even better because I return to the LCR Team where I raced for 5 years in my MotoGP career,” he said. “I had my best racing memories with this team so it’s amazing to be back with Lucio and his squad.
“Regarding MotoE World Cup, everything will be new for everybody, but thanks to this test in November in Jerez we will gather more information on the bike and the riding style. I think it’s going to be fun with 18 identical bikes using the same tyres, so I cannot wait to start this new challenge.”
