CHIEFS of the new Open eSBK have been forced to call off their inaugural round next month at Assen.
Their first ever event was scheduled to run along the Ducati Club Netherlands at Assen on 24-26 May, but a lack of entries meant the electric championship had to be axed.
A statement reads:
“Unfortunately, the Open eSBK at the Ducati Clubrace weekend (24-26 May) will not happen this year. We didn’t receive enough registrations to make it viable for all stakeholders. In the end, we tried to make a combined race (electric machines joining the petrol machines) happen, but that, sadly, didn’t work out.
“We think it’s really unfortunate that there weren’t enough participants in the spring. For the summer, the Gamma Racing Day is scheduled. We are very determined to make this happen. Registrations have already opened. Also, for this weekend it is again possible to rent a bike from Electric Motorcycles Nederland as well. Check www.openesbk.com/register.“
Series bosses are still searching for more circuit time this summer. Watch this space for the latest.
