MIKE Di Meglio scorched to his first FIM Enel MotoE pole position this afternoon after pipping Xavier Simeon and Bradley Smith in qualifying.
The Marc VDS rider, who was the penultimate man out of the gates for today’s E-Pole session, clocked a 1:35.182 to steal the top spot from the Belgian by a mere 0.011sec.
After flying to provisional pole as the ninth rider on track, Dynavolt Intact’s Jesko Raffin watched as the next two riders fell short of his 1:35.365.
But Avintia Esponsorama’s Simeon came out of pits swinging and snatched provisional pole from the Swiss ace by a strong margin of 0.174sec.
Moments later, however, One Energy Racing man Bradley Smith split Simeon and Raffin to take second place, still 0.118sec short of the top spot.
But both Simeon and Smith were knocked back a place on the second to last run of the day by Marc VDS’ Di Meglio as the former 125GP champ went just 0.011sec quicker to clinch pole.
Final practice leader Hector Garzo, who was last out on the Tech3 E-Racing Energica, could only manage sixth – just behind Tuuli.
Trentino Gresini’s Matteo Ferrari, Octo Pramac man Alex de Angelis and Simeon’s team-mate Eric Granado completed the third row of the grid.
