LOCAL star Alex De Angelis scored his maiden FIM Enel MotoE pole position after fending off Matteo Ferrari in a thrilling E-Pole at Misano this afternoon.
Octo Pramac’s San Marino native was one of the early runners in the one-lap session today, but his 1:44.660 – the quickest time of the weekend so far – was good enough to fend off Trentino Gresini’s Ferrari by just 0.048sec.
But it was disaster early on for a number of riders including Sete Gibernau and Eric Granado who both exceeded track limits in the E-Pole session and had their lap times cancelled.
And it was even worse for championship leader Mike Di Meglio who was spat over his EG 0,0 big-style after a huge high-side. A few runs later, Sachsenring winner Niki Tuuli suffered a similar fate as he lost the rear of his Ajo Motorsport Energica and hit the deck with visible frustration. Both riders walked off circuit and appeared unhurt.
While De Angelis and Ferrari head off in first and second for tomorrow’s first race as well as Sunday’s second, Avintia Esponsorama’s Xavier Simeon will line up beside them in third.
Dynavolt Intact’s Jesko Raffin will start fourth ahead of LCR man Niccolo Canepa and Openbank Angel Nieto’s lady racer Maria Herrera.
Briton Bradley Smith lines up seventh for One Energy Racing while Tech 3 E-Racing’s Hector Garzo and former 125GP champ Nico Terol round out row three.
