MIKE Di Meglio believes he could have made an attack for the lead late in today’s FIM Enel MotoE race if not for the red flags that put an end to action.
After a solid start from the second row of the grid, the EG 0,0 Marc VDS rider settled into the leading pack of four heading into the first turn before breaking away in a gang which included chaser Hector Garzo as well as Bradley Smith and eventual winner Niki Tuuli ahead of him.
Di Meglio came under fire from Garzo in what would be the closing couple of laps, but the Frenchman says his plans were to leave his assault late and use the last of his Michelin rubber to bag even more points.
“It was a disappointing with the red flags because I was trying to manage my rear tyre,” he said. “I knew for the end of the race it would be helpful for me.
“The tyre was sliding a lot but I think it was because of this cold temperature. I planned to pass Bradley because I saw he was quite a bit quicker, then when I did that I saw the red flag.
“Sometimes racing is like that. But it was good and I am really happy with this historic podium.”
